The job market is broken. Not “going through a rough patch” broken — actually, structurally, fundamentally broken. Layoffs aren’t punishments for underperformance anymore; they’re quarterly accounting decisions. AI isn’t coming for your job in five years; it’s been at your job for two. Recruiters ghost. Six-month searches are normal. “Personal branding” has become a part-time job nobody asked for.
We’ve been on the wrong side of all of it. So has nearly everyone we know.
The Broken Handle is our attempt to talk about the modern career honestly — without the career theater, the false motivation, or the “everything happens for a reason” gloss. Just two people, both of whom have lost a handle once already, watching everyone else lose theirs.
